Inspired by the comforting Southern tradition of home-cooked tomato soup, this upgraded version has more depth, more warmth, and more reasons to fall in love. It’s everything you crave in a tomato basil soup—rich, creamy, and soul-satisfying—with just the right touch of sweetness.

Simply add chicken or vegetable broth, tomato purée, a hint of brown sugar, and cream for a bowl that tastes like it simmered all afternoon (but only takes about 35 minutes to prepare).

6 cups chicken or vegetable broth (48 oz.)
1 can (29 oz.) tomato puree
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 cup heavy or light cream (8 oz.)

In a 3 or 4-quart non-aluminum pot*, bring broth to a boil.
Reduce heat and stir in soup mix. Return to a simmer, cover, and cook for 20 minutes.
Stir in tomato puree and brown sugar.
Return to a gentle simmer, cover, and cook for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat and slowly stir in the cream.
Continue cooking, uncovered on low for 5 minutes and serve.

*Aluminum reacts with the acid in tomatoes and may cause a metallic taste.

I just had to reach out to let you know the Tomato Basil Soup is outstanding! We just finished dinner and there is just enough left for lunch tomorrow. I absolutely love that I could identify each ingredient in the packet, and no unnecessary fillers, salt or preservatives. So easy to make and so delicious! I bought this about 2 years ago from granddaughter’s gymnastics club, along with several other of your products, but I just found this one hiding in my pantry. I will definitely be purchasing more of your products in the near future. Thank you for making such wonderful products.

So bitter!

I was so excited to see this back, and ordered several, and now I wish I hadn’t. I don’t agree with the other reviews, this soup was so bitter with herbs that the added sugar and cream could not overcome. It didn’t even really taste of tomatoes or peppers, as it once did… just bitter herbs and carrots. There also are no large pieces of tomato wheels, even though the photography still shows that. In our opinion, this is terrible and went from one of the best soups to the worst by far. ***Anderson House Reply*** Hi Petey, we are so sorry you had a bad experience with our Tomato Basil. We are a little miffed at that over-powering bitter flavor, we have not heard this from anyone else and while we did revise this recipe recently, we made only very minor tweaks to the herb blend and did not touch the Bay Leaf amount which is where the bitter would likely come from. I was thrilled to see this available again and hope the new version is as tasty as the previous. I was soooo sad when I thought it was discontinued. Guests have said it’s the best soup they’ve ever tasted. I use a veg cube for stock and soymilk, and it’s delicious. Just ordered the new mix and can’t wait for it to arrive. Thank you!
