Chicken Soup for the Self-Care Season

Chicken Soup for the Self-Care Season

Posted by Nicola Prybell on Nov 3rd 2025

When the world feels busy, chilly, or just a little bit loud, there’s something deeply comforting about slowing down with a warm bowl of soup.

November 12th is National Chicken Soup for the Soul Day—a day dedicated to inspiration, reflection, and the simple things that nourish us from the inside out.

It’s not just about the iconic book series that made us all tear up (and smile) over stories of kindness and hope. It’s about taking a moment to fill your own cup—or in this case, your own bowl—with something that feeds both body and spirit.

This year, we’re celebrating with our own take on the theme: Chicken Soup for the Self-Care Season.

What We Mean by “Self-Care Season”

As the air cools and the year winds down, self-care isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about small, gentle acts that help you feel grounded and grateful.

Sometimes that’s reading by the window with a cozy blanket.
Sometimes it’s sharing a laugh over soup with a friend.

And sometimes it’s just sitting quietly with something warm between your hands, breathing a little deeper.

Your Self-Care Menu

We created a simple Self-Care Menu to make it easy to choose a few nourishing moments throughout your day. Like building your favorite bowl of soup, you can mix and match what feels best.

Something to Refresh Your Body

  • Sip a light, brothy chicken soup or a chilled veggie soup

  • Stretch while your soup simmers

  • Add fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon to brighten your bowl

Something to Lighten Your Mind

  • Enjoy a mindful, slow sip of soup—notice the warmth and aroma

  • Read one page from a favorite book with your soup beside you

  • Write down three things you’re grateful for today

Something to Make You Smile

  • Share soup with someone you love (or deliver a surprise bowl!)

  • Doodle while you wait for the pot to simmer

  • Say out loud: “This is my little moment of comfort.”

Optional but Delightful

  • Light a candle while your soup cooks

  • Take five deep breaths before your first bite

  • Dance around the kitchen between stirs

Because sometimes, self-care looks like soup—simple, satisfying, and full of heart.

Two Ways to Savor the Season

For a cozy night in, try one of our favorite comforting chicken soups:

Colorado Campfire Chicken Stew

Thick, hearty, and soul-warming—like a mountain cabin in a bowl.
Packed with carrots, peas, potatoes, and white beans, this stew delivers all the rich, creamy flavor of a classic pot pie—no crust required.

Connecticut Cottage Chicken Noodle Soup

Bright and cheerful, this timeless classic is perfect for easy weeknights or quiet afternoons. With colorful veggies, gluten-free noodles, and a gentle touch of dill, it’s the definition of comfort.

A Final Ladle of Encouragement

Self-care isn’t one recipe fits all.
Some days call for a full pot, others just a spoonful.
Whatever nourishes you today—that’s enough.
