Cauldron-Worthy Dips for Your Halloween Party
Posted by Nicola Prybell on Oct 13th 2025
Why settle for a store-bought veggie tray when you can serve dips so good they’re practically magic?
These three cauldron-worthy dips — Spinach Artichoke, Chipotle Taco, and Avocado Dill — make any Halloween party instantly more fun. Hang them up, serve them warm, or let guests scoop away — either way, they’re magical! For a full festive spread, don’t miss our spiderweb Gingered Carrot Soup and the hearty Split Pea Soup served straight from a witchy cauldron.
Some people decorate with cobwebs and skeletons — I decorate with snacks.
This year, I went full witchy and filled three mini hanging cauldrons with our dips: Spinach Artichoke, Chipotle Taco, and Avocado Dill. It made the whole snacking setup feel so fun — and yes, it literally elevated the experience since they were hanging above the counter. Bonus: I could sneak decor underneath, adjust them for photos, and hone in my food stylist skills for an afternoon.
Spinach Artichoke Dip: A Cheesy Crowd Favorite
My husband declared this one his favorite, claiming he could “eat the whole cauldron for dinner.” (Dear reader, I did not let him.)
I topped mine with extra Parmesan cheese for a little extra flavor. Note: I didn’t bake it in the cauldron — I baked it in an 8x8 pan and then transferred it while still hot. That’s why the top isn’t browned in my photos. If you want that crispy, golden look, you could always take a kitchen torch to the top before serving.
Spinach Artichoke Dip Recipe
-
1 cup sour cream (8 oz.)
-
1 cup mayonnaise (8 oz.)
-
1 can (14 oz.) artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
-
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (4 oz.)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Blend sour cream, mayonnaise, and dip mix. Stir in artichokes and Parmesan. Pour into an 8x8 baking pan and bake 30 minutes, until lightly browned. Serve warm with pita chips, crackers, or toasted bread slices.
Nicola’s Tip: Transfer to your cauldron right before serving for that witchy touch (no spells required).
Chipotle Taco Dip: Spicy, Smoky, and Seriously Addictive
This one was my favorite — though it definitely has a kick! Next time, I’ll use plain diced tomatoes instead of the kind with green chiles (I’m blaming them for the extra heat).
Serve with a side of sour cream for those who can’t handle spice all that well — a.k.a. me.
Chipotle Taco Dip Recipe
-
1 Tbsp. oil
-
3 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded (or 2 cans drained)
-
½ cup water
-
1 can (10 oz.) tomatoes with green chiles (or diced tomatoes for less heat)
-
2 cups shredded cheddar or cheddar jack cheese (8 oz.)
Instructions:
Heat oil in a saucepan. Add chicken and toss to coat. Stir in dip mix, water, and tomatoes. Cook 10 minutes on medium-low until liquid reduces. Stir in cheese and blend for about 5 minutes until smooth and creamy.
Nicola’s Tip: Getting pre-shredded chicken from the deli made this recipe a total breeze. Next time, I might try it with browned ground beef!
Avocado Dill Dip: Bright, Fresh, and Perfectly Green
This dip might be the most photogenic of the trio — the color was unreal. I happened to have the perfect avocados that day. You know the kind that are perfectly ripe, bright green, and ready at the exact right moment? It felt like a miracle.
This dip is creamy, zesty, and perfect for serving with crisp veggies or pita chips. (Tortilla chips don’t do it justice, in my opinion.) I’m already brainstorming ways to tweak it — maybe thinning it out with a little extra water to turn it into a salad dressing, or adding sour cream for a tangy twist.
Avocado Dill Dip Recipe
-
1 packet of Avocado Dill Dip Mix (the box comes with two!)
-
½ cup water
-
3 large ripe avocados (about 1½ cups)
-
½ cup plain Greek yogurt (4 oz.)
-
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
Instructions:
In a small saucepan, bring water to a simmer. Stir in dip mix and simmer 5 minutes. (Or microwave for 1–3 minutes.) Mash avocados in a bowl, add yogurt, lemon juice, and the simmered mixture. Blend until smooth — or leave it chunky if you prefer.
Nicola’s Tip: Try it on toast topped with sliced salted tomatoes. Chef’s kiss.
